Our PTA's Focus is Quality Education in the Public Schools!

Welcome to Our Schools
The Friends of Nantucket Public Schools welcomes you to our schools and invites you to join us. The Friends is an organization of parents, teachers, and community members who promote and support quality education for the children of Nantucket's public schools.

PTA: Nantucket-Style
Founded in 1983, the Friends of Nantucket Public Schools is the official parents-teachers association of our school system. Our name characterizes the spirit with which members of the Nantucket community come together on behalf of children and learning. We believe that parents, community members, and educational professionals working together in productive partnership strengthen our public schools.

Making a Difference
From the very beginning, one of the vital contributions made by the Friends has been financial assistance to various school projects and activities that might not otherwise have received adequate funding. We hold two annual fundraising events: the July Antiques Show and the Holiday House Tour. The proceeds enable the Friends to provide enrichment activities and educational programs, provide grants, and offer informative workshops for parents and also free child care for our events and workshops.

Over a half-million dollars has been donated to Nantucket's schools through the efforts of the Friends. Some purchases and programs we have made possible include a system-wide summer reading program; The Children's Fund, a year-round scholarship fund for enrichment programs; books; software; videos and other classroom equipment; on-island guest speakers; and off-island student excursions and parent workshops.

A Work in Progress
Because change is a process rather than a goal, the Friends of Nantucket Public Schools plans to continue to adapt and adjust to the needs of our children, our schools, and our parents. We offer a forum for the exchange of ideas, philosophies, expectations, and concerns about education. We believe the diversity of our membership is our strength, and everyone is welcome as we work together to promote and improve the quality of education in Nantucket's public schools.
