2010 - 2011

Mission:

The Nantucket Interfaith Council, a collaboration of Nantucket's religious congregations, meets monthly, 2nd Tues. Noon at the Christian Science Church, 2 Madaket Road. Clergy and lay representatives comprise the Council of approximately 25 persons. The council represents a growing trend in ecumenical and interfaith unity. It supports each religious congregation in promoting spiritual, ethical, and social welfare and addresses pertinent issues and emergencies in the Nantucket community.

The Food Pantry: 508-228-7438

Located at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Fair St., the Nantucket Emergency Food Pantry is sponsored by the Interfaith Council. Donations of unopened and currently dated food are gratefully received at the Food Pantry distribution center off the St. Paul's parking lot on Fair St., and at all churches. The Food Pantry is open 4-6 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, and at other times in an emergency. In case of an emergency, leave a message on the Food Pantry's voicemail or speak to any of the Island clergy.

Nantucket Rental Assistance Program ("NRAP"): 508-901-1320

The Nantucket Rental Assistance Program, sponsored by the Interfaith Council, provides short-term assistance to help low and moderate income island residents remain in stable year-round housing. Families facing a sudden financial crisis who are currently in rental housing, or who have located a rental unit, may be eligible to receive financial assistance with first and last payments, ongoing partial payment of monthly rent or one or two larger monthly rent payments. Assistance is limited to $3000 within any 18 month period. To qualify, families must show they can sustain rent payments after the assistance ends; meet income limits; have (or be offered) a year-round lease; and show at least a two-year presence on the Island. Funds are limited. To apply, call to obtain an application form or pick one up from the Department of Human Services.
